Why am I getting an error on the W-2 input page
Why am I getting an error for boxes 15 - 20?
When issuing W-2 forms, employers may have the state and locality fields boxes 15 - 20 partially filled out without amounts shown on boxes 16 - 19.
The error is triggered by entering boxes 15 or 20 on the software without entering the information needed in boxes 16-19. To prevent this error, you must leave boxes 15 - 20 blank if no amounts are showing in boxes 16-19 on your W-2 form.
If you have not entered any amounts in boxes 16 - 19, but you are entering information in box 15 or 20 (General State & Locality Information), this may cause an error in the system. To avoid this issue, please ensure that boxes 15 - 20 are left blank if there are no amounts in boxes 16 - 19.
If the error persists or if this doesn’t fit your situation, please send us a secure email.
Please note that if there are amounts shown on boxes 16 - 17 and/or 18 - 19 that are non-zero values, you will need to complete the required fields to avoid error messages.
