How to make a payment to IRS with paper check
If you are looking to pay tax owed to the IRS with a paper check, there is an option to select paper check at the time of filing your return.
Opt to pay with paper check
Enter your return, select Enter Balance Due Payment Details* found towards the bottom of the Return Summary page.
On the Federal or State Tax Balance Settlement Page, select Pay On My Own - Paper Check
To mail your paper check
Print a copy of your Federal Payment Voucher by selecting Print Completed Forms and Documents on the Navigation Page
Select Federal Payment Voucher located under the as Filed documents to download/print your voucher
If you will also be paper filing your return, print a copy of your federal tax return to be included in the mailing
- Place your Federal Payment Voucher and paper check in an envelope and mail to the applicable mailing address listed on Page 2 of your Federal Payment Voucher.
*If you are paper filing your federal return, include a copy of your Complete Federal Return in the envelope for mailing.
