How to amend a 2020 - 2023 return

  1. Login to your MyFreeTaxReturn.com account

  2. Select Work With Filing on the return you are looking to amend, this may be under prior years

  3. Select Edit a Return in Progress

  5. Search 1040-X in the sidebar search engine (Follow this step ONLY if you are looking to amend your FEDERAL tax return)

  • This step adds the 1040-X form, allowing you to make a federal amendment. If you are looking to only amend your state return, you can disregard this step all together. In the 1040-X page you will fill out the necessary information and provide an explanation as to why you are making this amendment.

**6) Make the amendment **- add/adjust the federal/state change you are looking to make in the return

  • This step is taxpayer specific. Essentially, you will now implement the change that prompted the amendment.

  • For example: If you forgot to include your W-2 from your second job you would add a W-2.

  • You must include an explanation of changes to include in your amendment for the IRS

7)Submit your amended return to be filed.

  • You can now e-file or mail your amended return.

Important Note:

  • 2020 - 2022 amendments MUST be mailed

  • 2023 amendments can be e-filed or mailed
